A Letter from the Sociology Graduate Program Director

Dear Prospective Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in NC State's graduate program in sociology. We are a department of outstanding accomplishments and great potential. We have a dynamic faculty doing exciting research and graduate students who are making their marks on the discipline. Faculty and graduate students work hard, contribute a lot, and enjoy the camaraderie of a closely-knit culture. The graduate program trains excellent researchers and teachers and places them in superlative jobs, both academic and non-academic. 

Our faculty have a wide range of research interests and our students develop their dissertation research on diverse topics (click here for a list of dissertation and thesis titles of our graduates). Our program currently offers coursework and doctoral preliminary examinations in:

We admit students with bachelor's and master's degrees but expect that all of our students will continue on to the PhD. here at NC State. We had 74 applications for the 2015 cohort (students who entered the program in August 2015) and we admitted 22 students.
