Dr. Joseph Gingerich Helps Retrieve New Smithsonian Institution Collection
Our very own Dr. Joseph Gingerich, teaching scholar at North Carolina State University and research associate at the Smithsonian Institution, took part in the collection of approximately 14,520 artifacts from prehistoric, indigenous American cultures as far back as 13,000 years. The collection was transferred to the Smithsonian Institution from archaeologist Leonard Ziegler, who began collecting the pieces in 1954. For more on the collection, including words from Dr. Gingerich, read the article on NJ.com: Belvidere resident donates more than 14,000 Asbury Plenge site artifacts to Smithsonian.
