Why did you choose CHASS?

CHASS offered many different areas that interested me. When people think of NC State, they often think of the Colleges of Engineering, Textile or Design. I actually feel CHASS is the best college. It is like the sleeper college here, more people need to know how great it is and how much it has to offer. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that we have the prettiest area on campus!

What new doors has college opened for you?

NC State has allowed me to try new things. Anything I could have wanted to do ? the opportunity has been there. I have taken two courses in Equitation. Many people think about the possibility of horseback riding, but do not get the chance to follow through.

What has been notable about your experiences in CHASS?

My studies here encouraged me to become more responsible and hard working. I saw in the very first semester that my rate of success was proportional to my rate of effort. I was also excited by my courses and eager to learn. My faculty advisers have been quite helpful. They are always friendly, remember who I am when I visit them, and take a personal interest in me.

Can you describe your internship at the FBI?

I was selected for a highly competitive internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia in Fall 2006. I worked as one of four interns with the Behavioral Science Unit, where I performed research for current agents and staff. I wasn’t treated like an intern, though ideas were bounced off of me, and I feel that I had a real influence on program development.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Keep your options open and take the time to explore. Once you find things that interest you and that you feel confident about, you will stick with them and be successful.
