Getting Involved at NC State

There are many different ways a student can get involved on campus. One huge way a student can decide to get involved on campus includes joining an academic or social club. There are a various number of clubs here at NC State, ranging from both academic and social clubs. Personally, joining a club on campus has been an essential part of my journey here at NC State, and is a great way to meet others who are interested in some of the same things as you.

As a student, I have tried my best to get involved on campus through a variety of different activities, organizations, and clubs. As a criminology major the Criminal Justice and Criminology Club really stood out to me beginning my freshman year. This specific club has provided its members with a myriad of opportunities, events, and overall great experiences. The Criminal Justice and Criminology Club is a good way to meet others, from any major, with an interest in criminal justice. The Criminal Justice and Criminology Club offers many different opportunities, as well as connections to others involved in the criminal justice field within our community. During our meetings we have had the chance to meet with several different individuals and hear about their careers within the criminal justice field. This has been a great way for members to ask questions, explore potential career options, and even just learn something new. Throughout my membership in this club, we have even had the opportunity to tour the City-County Bureau of Identification (CCBI) and meet with the head agent there. We were able to see a lot of the “behind-the-scenes” work regarding forensic science, and learn a lot about careers offered at the CCBI. Some of the other activities we have done in the past have included learning about fingerprints and fingerprinting techniques, watching true-crime documentaries or movies, as well as talking about current events or particular cases we have found to be interesting. This Club has been filled with so many great experiences, opportunities,  and has also allowed me to meet many new and amazing people.

Organizations and clubs on campus all provide a space for individuals to come together and engage with others that all have a shared interest as them. As a Freshman I was given advice by an upperclassman to join some kind of extracurricular activity on campus in order to meet new people and to truly experience things only joining an organization can give. As a current Senior now, I truly hope to pass that same message along to others. There are so many countless experiences and opportunities I have been given as a student just by simply joining a club or organization on campus. There are so many different clubs and organizations here at NC State, and there truly is something for everyone to get involved in. Altogether, my overall experience here at NC State would not have been the same without my participation in different organizations and clubs.
